While the AMD Phenom X3 and X4 models showed some very nice downward movement, the Intel Core 2 selection remained quite stable by comparison. There were a few drops here and there, including a trio of $5 price cuts to the Core 2 Duo E7200 (2.53 GHz), Core 2 Duo E6750 (2.66 GHz) and Core 2 Duo E8400 (3.0 GHz) processors. Other than $3 off the price of an entry-level Celeron E1200, that was it for lower priced desktop processors, and the biggest Intel decrease was $18 shaved off the 2.33 GHz XEON E5345.
We are happy to see AMD restart their price cutting on the Phenom X3 and X4 line, especially as this strategy has resulted in great deals on some mainstream triple and quad core CPUs. On the other hand, other than some random drops, Intel has been holding the course, and hoping that its superiority at the ultra high-end filters down to the entry-level and mainstream markets, where AMD can still compete very well. Here's hoping AMD's latest moves will force Intel to act next week.
