This week's Intel CPU prices more or less mirror their AMD counterparts, with only one falling by a notable amount. And that was the 3.2 GHz Core 2 Extreme QX9770, which only dropped $18 to its current price of $1,404 - hardly anything earth-shattering. Only a few of the other Intel prices we track fell at all, with the rest holding right where they've been for weeks. The big Intel news was the debut of a trio of quad core models, as the Core 2 Quad Q9400 (2.66 GHz), Q9550 (2.83 GHz) and Q9650 (3.0 GHz) made their first appearance in our CPU price guide.
Unfortunately, last week's handful of scattered price drops don't seem to have marked the beginning of a trend, with the overwhelming majority of the AMD and Intel CPU prices we track, across all speeds and budgets, continuing to hold steady. Hopefully the introduction of some new mainstream Intel Core 2 Quad models will lead to some additional drops next week.
