Unfortunately, we have more in the way of price increases than decreases in this week's Intel processor charts. The Core 2 Extreme QX9770, which had fallen $18 to $1401 last week, is now showing a $49 spike in this week's guide. And while much of this can be attributed to a previously lowest-priced vendor no longer carrying it in stock, it's nonetheless unwelcome news to potential CPU shoppers, especially when the next biggest price change was an $18 jump to the tracked price of the Core 2 Duo E6850, leaving it at its current price of $187.
Alas, price drops remain a rarity in this week's CPU price guide, with the overwhelming majority of the CPUs we track holding steady and a few even moving upwards. AMD once again outperformed Intel, but this time is due to maintaining current price levels, compared to the price increases we saw on the Intel side. But with another quarter drawing to a close, and a new one soon to begin, all we can do is hope that there will be better news to report in the coming weeks.
