Three of our tracked Intel Core 2 processors dropped from last week's price levels, with the most noteworthy being a $10 cut to the price of the 3.2 GHz Core 2 Extreme QX9770. But given its lofty price tag of $1,430, this kind of "price drop" is not likely to stir up much excitement. Also of note, however, are debuts of the Core 2 Duo E7300 (2.66 GHz), E7400 (2.8 GHz), and E8600 (3.33 GHz) processors, which enter the charts at $119, $140, and $269, respectively.
As in past weeks, CPU price drops remain few, small, and far between in the Intel charts, and even worse, we're starting to see some price increases from the AMD side. But the upcoming release of the powerful Core i7 processor line should help to keep things interesting while we wait for some increased price-competition between the two camps.
