Most of the CPU prices we track in the Intel charts held every bit as steady as their AMD counterparts... even moreso, in fact. But two of the Intel listings fell by double-digit amounts; the 3.0 GHz XEON E3110 shed $15 off its price while the 3.2 GHz flagship Core i7 Extreme 965 dropped by $17. Other than those two, the next largest Intel drop was only $5 off the price of a 2.5 GHz Core 2 Quad Q9300.
For the most part, this week's AMD and Intel CPU prices contain very few surprises and even fewer significant price drops. But there can be little doubt that the new year will bring new products like the Phenom II and new price drops on existing processors. Hopefully, both of these will come around sooner rather than later.
