This week's Intel CPU prices are a bit tougher to get a handle on. While the overwhelming majority of the prices we track in this chart held every bit as steady as their AMD counterparts, one fell by a rather staggering amount: the 3.0 GHz Core 2 Extreme QX6850, which tumbled a massive $100 from last week's tracked price. Then again, this is a last-generation model that has been superceded by newer, 45nm Core 2 Extreme/Quad models, and its current price is still a hefty $900.
By and large, the AMD and Intel prices we tracked in this week's update have continued to hold as steady as we've seen in recent guides. There is one notable exception, which fell by a whopping $100, and for various reasons is not quite as impressive as it initially looked. We do hope that this type of price cutting is the start of a trend, and starts to filter down into the other Core 2 Duo and Quad models of a similar vintage.
