This week's Intel processor prices are all over the place. Some went up by as much as $15, and some down by as much as $19. The biggest drop was on the OEM 2GHz P4, which fell $19 to its current price of $405. But considering that still leaves it $148 more expensive than the only slightly slower 1.9GHz P4 and $147 more expensive than the competition's Athlon XP 1900+, which matches or bests it in most benchmarks, it's hard to get excited about even its $19 price drop.
After weeks of almost completely stagnant prices, it's good to see some price drops in this week's guide. But with so many prices going both up and down, this week, particularly on the Intel price charts, buyers who see this guide in the week following its publication should take special care to get updated quote from Pricewatch before calling a vendor and asking them to honor a listed price.
