Memory Pricing Guide |
Weekly Memory Prices - Week of Apr 01, 2002 - Page 2By Vangie Beal April 3, 2002
Here goes another week of minimal changes in SDRAM prices. PC100 memory seems to be experiencing a greater number of price drops than increases this week, with PC100 CAS3 256mb dropping down $8 to $54 this week. There are also a number of smaller $2 and $3 drops on PC100 memory. PC133 is also a mixed bag this week as we have a good selection of both price increases and decreases. PC133 CAS3 512mb prices increased $14 to $106.00, while PC133 CAS2 512mb dropped $13 to $79.00. On an interesting note, it was only six months ago that a stick of PC133 ECC 512mb would have cost you $52.00 - today the price is $123.00. While we see a nice $23.00 price drop on PC2100 256mb, I should mention that this is the latest DIMM we've updated using the Kingston memory prices from Mwave.com, rather than PC2100 from Crucial.com. Other than this, there is little to report in DDR SDRAM prices changes this week. For quite some time Pentium 4 owners were hit with high prices on RDRAM, but thankfully when you look at the overall trend, RDRAM prices cntinue to fall. This week's RDRAM prices show either slight price drops or no price changes at all - which I'm sure we will agree is better than increasing prices. PC800 256mb went down $3 to $63.00 and PC800 128mb fell by $1 to $30.00 this week. For those of you who don't quite remember emptying their pockets to buy RDRAM, lets take a quick look back to the last week of May 2001, close to ten months ago. PC800 ECC 256mb at that time sold for $198.00 while today you can purchase it for $78.00. For those who complain about the $245.00 price tag on PC800 ECC 512mb, least we not forget that ten months ago you would have been paying $619.00. In light of recent price increases, constant memory prices is about as much consumers as can really ask for. Since memory prices can go up and down on a daily basis, depending on market conditions and availability, we suggest you use our guide only to provide you with an idea on where prices are heading. Keep in mind that many vendors also state that their price applies specifically to phone orders, while others offer their lowest prices on online orders.
