Memory Pricing Guide |
Weekly Memory Prices - Week of Apr 15, 2002 - Page 2By Vangie Beal April 16, 2002
This week SDRAM prices have changed even less compared to last, as we only see two slight $1 price decreases. With so many ups and downs in prices from the end of 2001 and the beginning of 2002, maintaining relatively low SDRAM prices is a very good thing. This week most of our listed DDR modules changed in price. PC2100 512mb is down $8 to $137 and PC2400 256mb dropped another $6 as well. PC2100 256mb and PC2100 128mb also decreased in price by $4 and $2 respectively. The price of RDRAM is relatively stable, with only a few very slight $1 ups and downs to report. Although the $241 price tag on 512MB of ECC PC800 may seem high, don't forget that ten months ago you would have been paying over $600. For quite some time Pentium 4 owners were being slammed with the high cost of RDRAM, but as prices continue to come down, RDRAM is looking much better as an upgrade option. In light of the recent volatility in the memory market, consistent memory prices are not necessarily a bad thing. We are also seeing a slight downward pressure on DDR, as inventories seem to have grown along with prices. When trying to figure out if online prices are better than those you'll get locally at a brick-and-mortar store, it is important to keep the shipping costs in mind. These can vary from vendor to vendor and so remember to factor in shipping whenever you see a deal that may be too good to be true.
