Memory Pricing Guide |
Weekly Memory Prices - Week of Apr 22, 2002 - Page 2By Vangie Beal April 23, 2002
For the most part, we're seeing a very flat line running through SDRAM prices. Little seems to change in SDRAM prices on a weekly basis, and in fact we've seen very little movement in this category since the end of March 2002. At that point in time most of the news centered on price spikes, so we're certainly not going to complain about consistent SDRAM prices. DDR SDRAM is usually a category with few price changes, and increases or decreases tend to be of a low dollar value. This week we see only one price change through all the DDR speeds and types we list in our guide, and that's a skimpy $1 price drop on PC2400 256mb. This week RDRAM is not moving much either, as we see only two slight $1 price increases. For quite some time, Pentium 4 owners were being slammed with high prices on RDRAM, but when you look at the overall trend, prices are still on a downward slope and a much better deal than in the past. In light of recent price increases, seeing memory prices remain constant can be a blessing in disguise. Since memory prices can go up and down on a daily basis (depending on market conditions and availability), we suggest you use our guide to keep up to date on overall weekly trends. Also keep in mind that many vendors state their price is specifically for a phone order, while others offer their lowest prices on online orders.
