Weekly Memory Prices - Week of May 13, 2002 - Page 2By Vangie Beal May 14, 2002
Although you might think you're looking at last week's guide, rest assured that we have updated SDRAM prices; we just happen to be seeing very few changes in memory prices this week. Although a few prices are falling, we're back to the standard line-up: a few price drops mixed in with some price increases. We see the usual decreases in the $1 to $3 range, but this week we also noticed that the popular PC133 CAS3 256-MB has jumped up $7 to $64. While last week brought many changes in DDR SDRAM prices (in the consumer's favour), but this time we see only one major price difference: PC2100 256-MB is up $10 to $62. As more buyers make the transition to PC2700, we had hoped to see lower overall PC2100 prices, but unfortunately that just didn't happen this week. This week, the cost of RDRAM just didn't see many fluctuations. With the i850E announced last week and demand for RDRAM expected to rise, upgraders might be advised to stock up at these low prices. Overall memory prices have once again hit a stagnant point, despite industry trends suggesting we should be seeing lower prices than we are. Lets hope a few of these factors work their way in this week and roll out a better price outlook for next week. It is also highly recommended that you confirm the current price before making any purchase. Memory prices are volatile and while our weekly guide does illustrate overall trends, the actual dollar price could shift up or down quite quickly.
