Weekly Memory Prices - Week of May 27, 2002 - Page 2By Vangie Beal May 28, 2002
For the first time in months we're finally seeing price changes on PC150 memory. High-speed PC150 memory remains close to the price of a comparable quantity of CAS2 PC133, due to some slight price drops this week (ranging from $1 to $9). Some of the larger increases we're seeing this week include PC100 CAS2 ECC 256-MB which is up $11 to $81, and PC133 ECC 512-MB is up $10 to $133. With those increases however, we also had a few decreases, including PC133 CAS3 256-MB which fell $10 to $47. As buyers continue their move towards PC2700 we are seeing a few more price drops on PC2100 and PC2400 modules this week; with most ranging from $3 to $6. PC2700 prices haven't changed much over the last couple weeks and this week isn't an exception. Overall DDR SDRAM prices are more consistent than other memory format at this moment. Unlike most weeks, we see quite a bit of fluctuation on RIMMs this time, with both positive and negative price changes. PC800 512-MB is down a healthy $17 to $192, but jumping up is PC800 ECC 256-MB which increased $13 to $89 this week. With the i850E announcement, we expect to see demand for RDRAM rise, so keep that in mind when trying to decide on when to buy. Thankfully, overall memory prices aren't moving drastically in one direction or another, but this week we're seeing a couple nice price drops; which of course is a bonus for consumers. SDRAM prices do seem to be on the rise while PC2100 and PC2400 prices keep heading down on a slow but steady course. For those looking to make an upgrade this week, hopefully you'll find a deal on what you're looking for. Keep in mind that memory prices are volatile and while our weekly guide does illustrate overall trends, the actual dollar price could shift up or down quite quickly.
