Weekly Memory Prices - Week of June 10, 2002 - Page 2By Vangie Beal June 11, 2002
While the last two weeks have brought about a fair number of price drops in this category, this week's SDRAM listings pretty much reverses all of the previous consumer gains. All across the board we're seeing a fair number of price increases, and with the exception of PC100 CAS2 ECC 256-MB, virtually all the PC100 modules have gone up in price from $1 to $5. PC133 overall is up in price with the biggest jumps occuring with 512-MB modules. PC133 CAS3 512-MB rose $17 to $107 while PC133 CAS2 512-MB is up $11 to $101. Even though we see SDRAM on the rise, DDR prices are continuing their downward pricing trend. For the most part, the price decreases are small but we do see a very nice $9 drop on PC2700 512-MB. We are continuing to see frequent price drops on PC2100 DDR as resellers and consumers alike are shifting towards the faster PC2700. As usual, RIMM prices aren't moving a large amount in either direction. PC800 128-MB went up $8 to $46 while a couple others types have gone up in price by $1. This week we don't have a single price drop on RDRAM RIMMs. Overall prices are up this week with the most movement concentrated on SDRAM prices. Last week PC133 dropped nicely, but the price increases on these modules have raised the cost of upgrading your memory back up. On ray of light seems to be the steady price decreases of PC2100 and PC2700 DDR. A good bit of advice for those looking to upgrade their memory in the near future is to keep in mind that memory prices are volatile and while our weekly guide does illustrate overall trends, the actual dollar price could shift up or down quite quickly.
