Memory Pricing Guide |
Weekly Memory Prices - Week of June 17, 2002 - Page 2By Vangie Beal June 18, 2002
This week SDRAM prices remain pretty steady with only a few minor ups and downs. From an overall view, we do find PC133 prices dropping more than PC100, especially on the 512-MB modules. All PC133 512-MB ECC, CAS2 and CAS3 types have come down in price by $4 to $5 this week. This is certainly a nice bonus for anyone looking to upgrade their PC with higher-end PC133 memory this week. DDR SDRAM prices also changed very little this week, but we do see a decent $6 price drop on 256-MB of PC2400, bringing the total price down to $41. Our guide is also showing a few price drops on PC2100 and PC2400 DDR SDRAM as we see resellers and consumers continue their transition towards PC2700. Our only price increase this week was on PC2700 512-MB, which is up two dollars to $103. This may be an indication of things to come, so stock up on the high-density PC2700 while you can. While RDRAM is usually the slowest to react to competitive market forces, this week we're seeing more price increases than we have previously. While a couple of RDRAM types are up $1 and $2 this week, we see both PC800 ECC 128-MB and PC800 ECC 256-MB jumping by $5. Overall memory prices are up this week, especially on PC133 SDRAM and RDRAM. A good bit of advice for those looking to upgrade their memory in the near future is to always remember that memory prices are volatile and while our weekly guide does illustrate overall trends, the actual dollar price could shift up or down quite quickly.
