Weekly Memory Prices - Week of July 8, 2002 - Page 2By Vangie Beal July 9, 2002
Much like previous trends, this week we see very little movement in SDRAM prices. PC100 prices increased a bit more than PC133, with PC100 CAS3 256-MB and PC100 CAS2 64-MB going up by $4. The largest SDRAM price hike seen this week is on PC133 CAS3 512-MB which jumped $5 up to $99. This week in DDR we see a couple positive price shifts, especially the very nice $18 price drop on PC2700 128-MB which now sits at only $40. PC2100 also featured a few small price changes, with PC2100 256-MB going up $6 to $45. True to form, we continue to see only very minor changes in this category again this week. For those in the market for RDRAM this week - well, lets hope you're not looking for PC800 ECC 512-MB. Last week it was up $17 and this week it jumped another $9 to a whopping $265. The only RDRAM price drop was on PC800 128-MB, which went down by a mere dollar. Overall memory prices aren't moving a whole lot this week and we continue to see only a few slight price changes (in either direction) with only one or two major price increases or drops. The slow and steady changes look to be mainly due to vendor competition as opposed to industry factors. A good bit of advice for those looking to upgrade their memory in the near future is to remember that memory prices are volatile and while our weekly guide does illustrate overall trends, the actual dollar price could shift up or down quite quickly.
