Memory Pricing Guide |
Weekly Memory Prices - Week of July 15, 2002 - Page 2By SharkyExtreme.com Staff July 16, 2002
Occasionally it feels a bit like a rollercoaster ride as we track SDRAM prices in this week's guide. We found some up and down activity, including a $26 price increase and a $10 price drop... But for the most part, the other prices have held more or less steady, experiencing only small ups and downs. DDR prices saw nothing but increases in this week's guide, with the biggest being a $27 increase on the price of PC2400 256MB DIMMS and a $24 hike on the price of PC2700 512MB DIMMS. In fact, the only entries we're not showing price increases for are the PC3200 256MB and 512MB DIMMS which debut in this week's guide, and so necessarily show "N/A" as their price change. The seemingly never-ending pattern of price increases on 512MB PC800 RIMMS continues in this week's guide, with the PC800 ECC 512MB RIMMS going up yet again... though only by an additional $5 this time. Its non-ECC counterpart experienced the biggest price increase in this section of the guide, with an $11 hike up to its current price of $191. And sadly, the only price decrease we see in this category was a paltry $1 drop on the price of PC800 256MB RIMMS. Well if you're sick of seeing guide after guide where prices have held steady, rest assured you'll see some movement in this week's guide. The bad news, though, is that most of that movement has been upwards. With prices in every category of the guide seeming to go up this week, this won't have been a fun read for anyone looking to upgrade memory in one's system. A good bit of advice for those looking to upgrade their memory in the near future is to remember that memory prices are volatile and while our weekly guide does illustrate overall trends, the actual dollar price could shift up or down quite quickly.
