Weekly Memory Prices - Week of July 29, 2002 - Page 2By Vangie Beal July 30, 2002
Once again we are seeing SDRAM prices moving up and down, making it rather difficult to predict just where the price will be at any given time. On the move this week is PC100 CAS3 256-MB jumping $11 to $48, PC133 CAS3 128-MB up $8 to $29, and PC100 CAS2 256-MB rising $4 to $41, to name but just a few. For those looking to buy at a good price we have PC133 CAS2 512-MB down $7 to and breaking the $100 plane at $98. For those of you who actually bought PC133 CAS2 512-MB in July 2001; give yourself a pat on the back because then you probably paid around $89 for it. DDR DIMM prices have changed a bit this week, but thankfully most of our current prices are lower than last week's. Only two DDR types remain unchanged while only PC2400 512-MB increased in price, and only by a measly buck. All other DDR DIMMs listed in our guide dropped in price, ranging from $1 to $5, giving a nice break to those looking to upgrade. While RDRAM has been quite unpredictable in the past, recent trends peg it as the most stable of the bunch. This week, RDRAM maintained the status quo and we didn't find a single price change on any PC800 memory. While dormant prices don't exactly make for exciting reading material, at least you won't be shelling out extra money this week for RDRAM. Overall memory prices were somewhat of a a mixed bag this week, as some prices went up while others, thankfully, stayed low. Although this Guide presents a current picture of memory market, it is extremely important to confirm the current price before making any purchase. Price changes (both positive and negative) are so frequent, and at times quite unexpected, that confirming the final price always makes good business sense.
