Memory Pricing Guide |
Weekly Memory Prices - Week of August 19, 2002 - Page 2By Vangie Beal August 20, 2002For those holding out for a wee bit of a price drop on SDRAM, you're certainly in luck this week as the majority of SDRAM modules in our guide have dropped in price. In a somewhat rare occurrence, we even see price drops on PC150 memory. PC100 CAS3 256-MB is down $8 to $40, while PC133 CAS2 512-MB can be found for $28 cheaper compared to last week. Not only did most SDRAM decrease in price this week, but we're also seeing nice price drops on 512-MB memory across the board as well. While DDR memory weren't going down by as much as SDRAM, we still have a few more price cuts than increases this week. For example, PC3200 512-MB is down $6 to $164. For the most part, DDR has either gone down slightly or remained static, but the long-term trends are more positive. Since July 29, the price of PC3200 512-MB has declined by a total of $21.00. When looking at price changes on a weekly basis the dollar amounts may not be that compelling, but when viewed over a three week period, you really do see how these can add up in the end. Unlike the previous couple of weeks, we also see a couple of RIMMs dropping in price by more than their standard $1 decrease. We found PC800 512-MB for only $175 which is $15 below last week's price. It was still a bit of mixed RDRAM bag this week, and While PC800 512-MB dropped in price, PC800 ECC 512-MB went up by $3 to $273. It is rather pleasing to once again see a week where the number of price drops outweigh the price increases. Those $1-$2 price cuts aren't anything to write home about, but the nice chunks taken out of a few 512-MB modules are very good news indeed! Enjoy the lower price levels this week, but if you're buying, be sure to check the prices (and shipping fees) of your favorite vendor just before. Prices are volatile and while our weekly guide does illustrate overall trends, the actual dollar price could shift up or down quite quickly.
