Memory Pricing Guide |
Weekly Memory Prices - Week of August 26, 2002 - Page 2By Vangie Beal August 27, 2002This week in SDRAM prices, we're only seeing quite a few smaller price drops as compared to last week's deeper price fluctuations. While the overall SDRAM picture does reflect price decreases - only a couple of them are over the $5 mark including; PC100 CAS2 ECC 256-MB (down $6 to $67), and PC133 ECC 512-MB (down $11 to $86). This week PC133 CAS3 512-MB also dropped by $6, and settled in at $99. When combined with last week's price impact, we do see that over time those small incremental price cuts do add up in the consumer's favor. For the second week in a row we're seeing better SDRAM prices and overall 512-MB SDRAM prices are still going down. Since last week, all PC3200 has dropped in price by a few dollars, along with PC2100 256-MB (down $5 to $44) and PC2400 512-MB (down $4 to $120). DDR memory seems to be taking its time coming down in price, as a year ago PC2400 512-MB was priced a full $22 more than it is now. It may be slow, but we are seeing a settling effect, and much like SDRAM prices, 512-MB prices continue to decrease. In the past, RDRAM was the one category which usually stayed roughly the same week after week. Our last few guides showed some nice price drops, but this week RDRAM stays true to its former listings, and we see only slight price decreases. There was even a price increase on PC800 64-MB, which is up $4 to $100 this week. Overall, 512-MB modules are going down in price as all but PC150 512-MB and PC800 ECC 512-MB went down in price, while those two didn't increase, but remain unchanged. For those looking to upgrade their memory we strongly advise you to check prices just before buying as memory prices can change so frequently on-line that our guide may not be current too long after publishing.
