Memory Pricing Guide |
Weekly Memory Prices - Week of September 2, 2002 - Page 2By Vangie Beal September 3, 2002This week in SDRAM we're seeing a bunch of price drops, but unfortunately they aren't very big ones. Across the board we see a fair number of $1 to $3 price drops, mixed in with a couple of doozies. These include a $9 drop on PC100 CAS3 256-MB, bringing it down to $27.00, and a $15 decrease in the price of PC133 CAS3 512-MB, which went down to to $84 this week. Only a few SDRAM modules increased, as we see four +$1 jumps and PC133 CAS3 128mb rising $5 to $27. Overall, the news is still good, as SDRAM prices are still on their way down. While the DDR DIMMs aren't going down by as much as SDRAM, we still see more price drops than increases this week. With DDR SDRAM, a few remain unchanged in price, a couple displayed slight price drops ($1 - $4) and there was one big $12 price drop on PC2700 512-MB. Always lagging behind the rest of the memory crowd is RDRAM. While others have jumped on the lower price bandwagon, RIMM prices (as usual), have changed very little. Low end PC800 256-MB and 512-MB both drop by $8, while PC800 512-MB goes up $15 to $89. This week we have added two new RDRAM listings for the high end crowd: PC1066 256-MB 232 pin and PC1066 256-MB 184 pin. It will be interesting to watch price changes here over the next little while. Overall we see more memory price drops than increases this week, and save for the bump up on PC800 512-MB, almost all other high-density memory modules are still dropping slightly in price.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
