Memory Pricing Guide |
Weekly Memory Prices - Week of December 16, 2002 - Page 2By Vangie Beal December 17, 2002Mid-way through December and a plethora of holiday dollars later, those looking to upgrade SDRAM this week had better be prepared to fork out a bit more. We see a few "no changes" on SDRAM this week, but even worse are the many slightly higher prices - with nary a price drop to be had. These price increases range from $1 to $6 and are spread out over all types. To name just a few, PC100 CAS2 256-MB jumped $6 to $43, PC133 ECC 128-MB is up $5 to $32, and PC133 CAS3 256-MB rose $4 to $38. Thankfully, as you'll see with the DDR list, SDRAM isn't setting the trend for the whole Memory Pricing Guide. DDR memory is quite the opposite of SDRAM prices, and in this section prices PC2400 512-MB was the only DDR type to hold steady, while all other listed DDR memory dropped in price slightly. While the price drops don't exactly fall into the "buy it now" category, at least we are seeing a nice flow of downward movement. Amongst the price cuts, we see PC2400 256-MB down $5 to $70, PC2700 512-MB falling $5 to $104, and PC2100 512-MB dropping $4 to $96. Let's hope to find continued lower prices on DDR memory next week, making it an even better time to buy. Prices on RDRAM are fluctuating a bit more this week, as we see both price drops and increases here. PC1066 256-MB modules (both formats) are down slightly in price, but PC800 512-MB jumped up $10 to $215. In other sizes, we also see an assortment of additional price increases and drops ranging from $1 to $4. It should be rather obvious that this is the week to buy DDR SDRAM, while those looking to upgrade SDRAM this week, will end up paying out a bit more than last week. While we aren't saving any big amount on actual memory costs over the holidays, the free shipping and shipping for under $1 some vendors are offering will come into play, creating additional savings. For those who are looking to upgrade a friend or loved one's rig for Christmas, you'll also be pleased to learn that many vendors are extending return dates to near the end of January. As always, choose wisely and remember to verify purchase prices directly from a vendor before buying as online memory prices can change so frequently that our guide may differ slightly soon after publishing. So until next week, happy holidays!
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
