Weekly Memory Prices - Week of March 17, 2003 - Page 2By Vangie Beal March 18, 2003SDRAMThis week, SDRAM prices continue along the path of small ups and downs, but there are a few surprises. PC150 512-MB, which had finally dropped in price a bit, managed to pop back up to $88 this week. PC133 modules show a couple $1 and $2 drops along with a $4 savings on PC133 CAS3 512-MB, which is down to an even $60. PC100 CAS2 256-MB also dropped $4, bringing these two modules to the top of our price cut list for SDRAM memory. PC2400 prices remain unchanged for the week, while several PC2700 modules are down $2 in price and PC2700 256-MB is up by $2. The icing on the cake is PC2100 512-MB which is down another $6 this week to an attractive $43. For the most part, DDR SDRAM memory is still on a bit of a downward trend, and the past few weeks have brought consistent price drops to DDR memory, making it a very affordable upgrade at the present time. For those who enjoy a trip down memory lane, it was during the third week of March last year when we first began to track PC2100 memory prices. At that time, PC2100 512-MB listed at a whopping $191 on Crucial's website. Not to be outdone, we're finally seeing a bit more movement on the price of RDRAM. The bad news is that PC800 256-MB is up $4 to $70, but on the good news front, PC800 ECC 256-MB and PC800 256-MB are both down by $4 each, and PC800 512-MB dropped $5 to $194. Unfortunately for performance users, PC1066 memory remains unchanged in price. DDR SDRAM is coming out as the big winner across the board, and has become a very attractive upgrade choice. We have a couple of nice DDR price drops to consider this week, especially on PC2700 512-MB modules. SDRAM prices remain around the same price mark overall, as one week we gain a dollar here and the next we save a dollar. With both SDRAM and PC1066 RDRAM mired in place, the real action is how much lower PC2700 and PC3200 are going to go! So until next week, happy upgrading!
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
