Memory Pricing Guide |
Weekly Memory Prices - Week of May 5, 2003 - Page 2By Vangie Beal May 6, 2003SDRAMOverall SDRAM prices are down a bit from our last guide, and while many modules have dropped only slightly in price, we still think those few dollars are better off staying in your wallet. All PC100 modules on the list have gone down in price, except PC100 CAS3 256-MB which remains unchanged. This biggest price change on PC100 comes in on PC100 CAS2 256-MB which is down $5 to $33 this week. For those shopping for PC100 CAS3 128-MB, you'll save $3 - paying out a total of $21. Overall PC133 modules are down this week as well. PC133 CAS3 512-MB dropped $4 to $64, while several others have declined by a couple of dollars each. This week has certainly tossed out enough smaller price drops on SDRAM to make it worth checking out should you be considering an upgrade. Our DDR SDRAM prices are a bit of a mixed bag this week. We have the pleasure of reporting a nice $7 price drop on PC2700 256-MB, now at $18. On the flip side, PC3200 256-MB and PC2700 512-MB both increased in price by $3 and $4 respectively. For PC2700 128-MB we've used Crucial.com as our vendor of choice. Although their memory is priced a few dollars higher, the company is offering free shipping on some orders, which makes them the better overall deal. RDRAM price trends are more in line with DDR SDRAM prices as we see both positive and negative changes for the week. We found PC800 512-MB for $8 less at a different vendor, letting this RIMM check in at $157. The other large price drop was on PC1066 256-MB 232-pin, which is also down $8 this week. For price increases we have up PC800 ECC 512-MB rising by $2 and PC800 ECC 128-MB up $4 to $45. At first glance our memory price guide show a fair number of negative signs in the price change column, but many of these changes reflect only slight $1 and $2 price drops. If you put off making that memory purchase until this week, you may not save a lot, but you won't be paying much more for it either. For the first time in quite awhile, RDRAM prices are moving in the consumers favor, and anyone looking for SDRAM is bound to get a fair price. Until next week, happy upgrading and please remember to verify prices on the vendor's website should you decide now is the time to buy.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
