Memory Pricing Guide |
Memory Prices - Week of September 1, 2003 - Page 2By Vangie Beal September 2, 2003SDRAMThis week's SDRAM list is a rather mixed bag of goodies, as some modules slip down the price chart by a couple dollars while others show a slight gain. On the up side we see a $4 increase on PC100 CAS3 256-MB, now at an even $40, while PC133 CAS3 512-MB is to $78; a jump of $4 as well. For those looking at making PC133 CAS3 128-MB their upgrade choice you'll be spending an extra $5. There were a few price drops on SDRAM memory, but unfortunately, these checked in at only the $1 and $2 level this week. From an overall standpoint, consumers are getting a break on DDR SDRAM memory this week, as all but two modules have dropped in price from $1 to $6. PC2100 256-MB is down $4 to $27 and we see a nice $6 drop on PC2700 512-MB. Thankfully only two modules failed to see lower prices, and these remained unchanged in price. RDRAM shows the most stable prices for the week, but we do see a couple of nice price decreases in here. PC1066 256-MB 184 pin is down $6 to $76, and the price of PC800 256-MB dropped by $7 to an even $80. Our biggest price increase comes in on PC800 64-MB, which went up $6 to $27. Even though we catch a few breaks on DDR SDRAM and RDRAM modules, it really comes down to the specific type, size and speed of memory you're looking for. A quick glance at the "change" column does show a lot more negative signs than usual, but many price increases this week are higher than the usual $1 and $2 increases. Since memory prices can go up and down daily, depending on market conditions and availability, we suggest you use our guide to provide you with overall memory prices, but before ordering, please confirm current pricing on the vendor site. Some vendors state that their price is specifically for a phone order, while others offer the lowest prices on online orders. It's a good idea to check the vendor's website to see which is going to be the cheapest ordering method before you buy.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
