Memory Pricing Guide |
Memory Prices - Week of October 13, 2003 - Page 2By Vangie Beal October 14, 2003SDRAMPrice fluctuations on SDRAM were sparse this week, and after the last spike on PC150 modules it is rather nice to see them at no change for the week. Both PC133 ECC 256-MB and PC133 CAS3 256-MB have gone up in price by $3 each. It's hardly worth a mention, save for the fact these the only SDRAM price cuts are PC133 ECC 128-MB and PC133 CAS2 256-MB, which dropped by $1. Completely opposite to our last report, DDR SDRAM is the most active group this week, although the modules that changed in price shifted by very little. Down the DDR line we see a multitude of $1 and $2 price drops, as vendors try and slightly undercut each other's prices. Even looking through the prices of the vendors we didn't list, you'll see everyone jumped on the 'undercut' bandwagon. While this may not have helped vendors much with everyone shedding a buck off prices, it has helped consumers by lowering the overall prices a bit. Also worth a mention is the $5 decrease on PC4200 512-MB, which is now at $204. To counter this savings however, we see PC2700 128-MB up $5 to $29. As is the usual case, RDRAM prices remain quite steady. The only price change we found was a mere $1 drop on PC800 ECC 256-MB. While we don't expect to see any major price shifts on RDRAM memory, we can hope for a couple more dollar savings next time out. Overall DDR SDRAM offers the best savings this week for anyone looking to upgrade. While each individual price change is small, it does help to lower the overall price of this memory type. When scouring the Net for memory, it is a good idea to look for reputable vendors who don't make money off shipping costs; remember this is a cost not directly listed in our guide and it will help keep your final purchase price low.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
