Memory Pricing Guide |
Memory Prices - Week of October 27, 2003 - Page 2By Vangie Beal October 28, 2003SDRAMThis week's price changes on SDRAM memory are few are far between. Upgraders interested in PC133 ECC 128-MB or PC133 CAS3 128-MB will save a dollar or two, but those looking for higher-end PC133 CAS2 memory will pay up to $3 more per module. While price changes remain relatively small in this category we do see more price increases compared to the last Memory Guide listing. While we recently recorded a plethora of slight price drops on DDR SDRAM, our guide for this week undoes most of those savings. We still see a $2 price cut on PC2700 128-MB and a $3 drop PC3700 512-MB, but many modules which decreased by those smaller increments have gone back up in price this week, ranging from $1 to $3. The biggest price change here comes in on PC2700 256-MB, which we found for $34. That is a $5 increase over our previous listing. RDRAM prices, which rarely fluctuate in price, show the biggest dollar changes for the week. PC800 ECC 128-MB is up $6 to $49 while PC800 ECC 512-MB was found at $208; or $18 cheaper than our last guide price. As always, when looking for PC800 ECC 512-MB modules, be sure to read the fine print and make sure you're buying a single module not a "Total 512-MB/2x256-MB" kit. Many vendors seem to not clearly state this so if the price looks too good to be true, then in this case it probably is. DDR SDRAM offers the most overall price decrease this week, but the few price drops on RDRAM come through at more than the usual $1 and $2 level. We didn't see any significant price increases this week, so if you're currently looking to upgrade your system memory or working on a second computer, you just might end up saving a buck or two by purchasing this week. The best way to save money is to check out the vendor websites and see if you can nab a shipping deal, which may amount to a greater dollar savings than our price guide savings can offer.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
