Memory Pricing Guide |
Memory Prices - Week of January 5, 2004 - Page 2By Vangie Beal January 7, 2004SDRAMDepending on what you're looking for in SDRAM, you may be in for some good news, such as price cuts that hit PC133 CAS3 128-MB and PC133 CAS2 256-MB. Unfortunately if you are looking to nab a PC133 ECC 512-MB module, then get ready to shell out an extra $10 this week. Other than an extra $2 tacked on to the price of PC133 CAS3 512-MB, these are our only SDRAM price changes we found in the new year. 2004 has brought with it quite a few DDR price drops, ranging from $1 to $19. Surprisingly, we tracked down PC3700 512-MB at $140 which is $19 cheaper than our last guide. Several of the 512-MB varieties of DDR SDRAM didn't fair quite so well, as PC4000 and PC4200 512-MB modules both went up by $4. DDR SDRAM certainly shows the greatest number of price drops this week, and if you can score a cheap shipping rate it may be worth looking at an upgrade here. Always the slow mover, this week's RDRAM prices show only two changes. We have a $3 increase on PC800 128-MB now at $43 and a quick $1 increase on PC1066 256-MB (184 pin). The new year certainly hasn't brought any major changes to RDRAM prices. DDR SDRAM offers the best savings this week, and the year 2004 has brought about the same pattern that we've been seeing for quite some time - RDRAM prices are slow to move and SDRAM hits the occasional bump. This week however, there seems to be additional DDR SDRAM price drops than normally charted and as always we can hope those prices don't go back up between now and our next guide. The best way to save money on purchasing memory from online vendors is to check out the vendor website and see if you can nab a shipping deal, which may amount to a greater dollar savings than this week's price cuts can offer. Until next week, happy upgrading!
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
