Memory Pricing Guide |
Memory Prices - Week of March 1, 2004 - Page 2By Vangie Beal March 2, 2004SDRAMThis is yet another uneventful week for SDRAM memory prices. We have only a single price change to report, as PC133 ECC 256-MB goes down by a mere dollar to $43. Obviously not a lot of price activity is going on here, but thankfully we're not paying any extra for an SDRAM upgrade this week. DDR SDRAM prices show a bit of variation, with most of the price shifts falling in the consumer's favor this week. PC4200 512-MB is down $5 to $192, and a $4 savings can be found on PC4200 256-MB. Along with those modules we also see several more have dropped $1 to $2 as well. On the rise is PC3200 256-MB which is up $3 to $34. Much like our last guide, overall DDR SDRAM prices are down more than any other memory type this week. Our RIMM prices remain unchanged save for two; PC800 256-MB is up $5 to $84 and PC800 512-MB is down $3. As a fun look back this week, let's sort through three years worth of PC800 512-MB prices since this is the most expensive memory we currently list in the guide. This time last year, anyone looking to purchase a single PC800 512-MB module would have paid $226. In March 2002 the price was listed at $238. Interestingly enough we first added PC800 512-MB modules to our guides in May of 2001, and the first ever charted price for this memory was a whopping $619! This is one look back that should make us all appreciate today's RDRAM prices a little bit more. Overall memory prices have become quite predictable, and have shown no substantial price fluctuations over the longer term. Savings this week are slim pickings, but overall we're not shelling out any large amount in price increases either. In this era of static prices, the best way to save money may be to check out the vendor websites and see if you can nab a shipping deal, which may amount to a greater dollar savings than our price guide can offer.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
