Memory Pricing Guide |
Memory Prices - Week of March 15, 2004 - Page 2By Vangie Beal March 15, 2004SDRAMWorking down the list of PC133 and PC150 modules, we see virtually no change from our last tracked prices. The exceptions this week are PC133 ECC 512-MB which is up $3 to $86, and a $1 increase on PC133 CAS3 256-MB. Other than those two price changes, SDRAM prices aren't moving much in either direction. Those who are not pleased at seeing even a small price increase to PC133 ECC 512-MB should be thankful it's not 2002 any longer. Two years ago anyone looking to upgrade this memory type would have shelled out $113. If one were to backtrack to March of last year, a stick of PC133 ECC 512-MB could have been purchased for $73; that's a whole $13 dollars less expensive than today's price. If only we knew then, what we know now. Price cuts on DDR SDRAM modules are sparse this week. A $1 savings on PC3500 256-MB and a $2 decrease in the price of PC4200 256-MB modules were the only drops we could find. On the rise this week is PC2100 512-MB and PC2700 128-MB, with both having increased by $3. Unfortunately across-the-board DDR SDRAM savings just aren't here this week. Overall RDRAM prices are stable, with just a few $1 and $2 increases to report. The most visible price change in the consumer's favor is on PC800 ECC 256-MB. If you waited until now to buy this memory, you're looking at a price tag of $88, or a $5 savings over our last tracked price. This week in memory is another one for the "status quo" books, as only a single RDRAM module showed any noticeable move downward. If you're currently in the market for a memory upgrade, you may not be saving a significant amount on the actual stick of memory, but as we go through the price listings we do see a nice trend in terms of free and low-cost shipping options. Choosing an online vendor with free shipping may save the most money in the end.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
