Memory Prices - Week of March 29, 2004 - Page 2By Vangie Beal March 30, 2004SDRAMSimilar to last week's price list, the SDRAM price fluctuations are few and far between. This week, consumers can enjoy a $3 price drop on PC133 CAS2 256-MB, now selling for $46. Unfortunately if you're scouring the market for PC133 ECC 512-MB, you'll pay a total of $91, which is a $5 jump over last week. The only other SDRAM price change charted this week was a measly $1 decrease on PC133 CAS3 128-MB. While we saw very little movement on DDR SDRAM modules over the last few weeks, this week the changes are all over the place. Thankfully most are those small $1 and $2 fluctuations, but we do see a $4 price drop on PC3500 256-MB. In contrast, PC4200 512-MB is up $4 to $196, while all PC2700 modules shifted in price, with PC2700 128-MB and PC2700 512-MB down $2 and $3 respectively, and PC2700 256-MB up $3. As usual, RDRAM prices show very little change. We have three modules down a mere $1 in price with the rest unchanged. As a friendly reminder, when looking for PC800 ECC 512-MB modules be sure to read the fine print and make sure you're buying a single module, not a "Total 512-MB Kit". This week we see a lot more price fluctuations than usual, spanning across most memory types. The good news is that consumers can take advantage of a few nice 4%-5% reductions, yet for those who have to pay more for their memory of choice face only limited price increases. Overall The DDR SDRAM category shows the most price decreases this week, and it might be a good week to take the plunge. To help you save even more money on your memory upgrade, be sure to check out the vendor websites and see if you can nab a shipping deal, which may amount to a greater dollar savings than any of this week's price breaks.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
