Memory Pricing Guide |
Memory Prices - Week of June 7, 2004 - Page 2By Vangie Beal June 7, 2004SDRAMStarting off the summer, SDRAM prices are a bit varied. Most of the SDRAM listings are pretty consistent, but along with a modest $1 drop to PC133 CAS3 128-MB, there's a big $10 price hike on PC133 CAS3 256-MB which is now selling for $54. We also charted a $4 increase on PC133 ECC 128-MB. Hopefully neither of these last two modules was on your upgrade list for this week. Other than those three price fluctuations, all other SDRAM modules remain unchanged in price for this week. Lately, DDR SDRAM prices have been the most constant of the bunch, but this week prices are jumping all over the place. All 256-MB varieties of DDR SDRAM are either unchanged (PC2700, PC3500, PC4000, PC4200) or they are up in price ranging from $1 to $7. The larger $7 increase was on PC3700 256-MB, which is now at an even $80. Going in the opposite direction, thankfully, are most 512-MB modules. A few remain unchanged in price this week including PC3700 512-MB and PC4000 512-MB, but all other 512-MB modules dropped in price. Most price drops are the smaller $2 decreases, but we do have a nice $5 cut to PC2100 512-MB, and PC4200 512-MB is down $7 to $171. RDRAM savings this week is determined by the exact type of memory you're looking for, and the price changes seem to be based on memory speed. Both PC800 256-MB and PC800 512-Mb are down $4 this week. We have a couple $1 price changes and a larger $8 decrease on PC800 ECC 512-MB. The biggest price change overall is a $10 increase on PC1066 256-MB (232-pin) which is now at $98. Price changes are all over the map this week, with DDR SDRAM offering the most price breaks overall. Throughout the guide a few good deals can be had, but it still comes down to what type, size, and speed of memory you are in the market for. A great way to save money when buying memory is to check out the vendor website and see if you can nab a shipping deal, which may amount to a greater dollar savings than our price guide can offer in the end. So until next week, happy upgrading.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
