Memory Pricing Guide |
Memory Prices - Week of July 19, 2004 - Page 2By Vangie Beal July 19, 2004SDRAMOverall we're seeing the SDRAM prices on the rise this week. Most noticeable is the $32 increase on PC133 CAS3 512-MB, which is due in part to having to switch vendors and memory type this week. Hopefully a few vendors will have this in stock in time for our next memory guide update. Additionally, PC133 CAS3 128-MB is up $12 to $40, and PC133 CAS3 256-MB also rose by $6. The only SDRAM savings we have is a $5 drop to PC133 CAS2 256-MB, which can be purchased for $91. Unlike our last guide, this week we're seeing more stability on DDR SDRAM than in any other memory category. Other than a $7 increase on PC4000 512-MB, we only have a few plus and minus $1 changes. This is certainly good news when compared to the price increases we've seen recently on DDR SDRAM. On the RDRAM side, PC800 512-MB is the big mover for the week. More and more vendors are listing 512-MB (2x256-MB) kits in and around the usual price range, so this week it took a bit of sleuthing to find PC800 512-MB (single module). Unfortunately this came with a $29 price increase over our last guide and this module is now selling for $209. When compared to the price increases, a $4 cut on PC800 256-MB seems like pretty small potatoes, but it's there none the less. Hopefully we'll have some better RDRAM prices to report in our next Memory Guide Update. With the exception of a few rather large price increases, the remainder of the modules fit the standard trend of stable prices and smaller fluctuations. Depending on your upgrade needs, you may have to either shell out a larger chunk of cash, or be able to save up to $5. A good way to get the best deal when purchasing memory from online vendors is to check out the website and see if you can nab a shipping deal, which may amount to a greater dollar savings than this week's price guide can offer.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
