Memory Pricing Guide |
Memory Prices - Week of August 2, 2004 - Page 2By Vangie Beal August 3, 2004SDRAMHeading into August we find only a few price changes worth a mention. The usual $1 and $2 fluctuations are there as always, along with a nice $7 price drop on PC133 CAS3 512-MB, which is now at $107. This is the same module that went up over $30 in our last guide, so hopefully we'll see it drop even more in our next update. The other notable SDRAM price cut is a $5 drop on PC133 CAS2 128-MB. The DDR SDRAM listings for this week are the most stable that we've seen in awhile. Last time we charted many price changes at over $5, but this week we have only small $1 and $2 fluctuations to report. Those familiar with our Memory Price Guide are sure to have noticed the newly added DDR2 modules in 533 and 667 varieties. Presently Crucial.com can offer the lowest price on these modules, especially since you can nab free shipping if you choose second-day shipping within the US (on orders over $40). In due time, we'll see more vendors bringing in DDR2 and will provide more competitive pricing. RDRAM prices, like most of our guide this week, show very few changes. Those in need of PC800 ECC 512-MB will shell out an extra $5, for an end total of $209. It pays to be careful when looking for a single stick of PC800 512-MB memory, as the number of vendors offering 512-MB kits for $5-$10 cheaper than the single stick is astounding. The price is enough to make one assume the item is a single module but be sure to read the fine print as many descriptions don't come right out and tell you you're looking at a 2x256-MB kit. For RDRAM this week, the only other price change we found is a single $1 increase on PC800 256-MB. Overall, this week in memory is quite sedate, bringing only a few price increases with the highest of them being only $2. In addition, some consumers may even save $5-$7 this week, depending on your exact upgrade needs of course. Hopefully you will find the DDR2 additions to our guide useful. It should be interesting to watch the price changes on these modules - especially when more online vendors jump on the DDR2 bandwagon. Remember to read the fine print and shipping info on an individual vendor's website before ordering, as some will offer significant savings by offering a shipping deal (which is not included in our chart). Until next week, happy upgrading.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
