Memory Pricing Guide |
Memory Prices - Week of August 16, 2004 - Page 2By Vangie Beal August 16, 2004SDRAMThe third week of August brings a few summer bargains our way, and overall SDRAM prices are moving down. PC133 ECC 256-MB has dropped $5 to $42, and those looking for PC133 CAS3 128-MB will save $4 this week. Scattered amongst the listings, we also see a few $1 and $2 price drops as well. With only price decreases to report this week, it is definitely a plus for SDRAM buyers. Unfortunately, our DDR prices don't stay quite in tune with the SDRAM listings. Here we found a big $11 price increase on PC4200 256-MB, now at $96. The good news, however, is that our only other price increase on DDR/DDR2 modules is a small $2 jump for PC3200 512-MB. We do have a total of twelve modules down in price this week, but most drops are the $1 and $2 variety. The majority of our DDR2 listings are still being tracked with best prices from crucial.com, with the exception of DDR2-533 512-MB, which we found $5 cheaper through another online vendor. Overall prices are down on DDR SDRAM, but in most cases, these aren't down by much. RDRAM prices have changed the least over the past week, with the only price drop being a measly $1 savings on PC800 256-MB. The only other price change we found on RDRAM comes by way of a $2 increase on PC1066 256-MB (184 pin), and stable is the word of choice for our RDRAM listings this week. Overall, our guide is showing more price decreases than increases this week. The savings on many modules are the $1 and $2 drops we see regularly, as online vendors compete to get a better ranking in the PriceWatch search engine. Regardless of the reason, this still adds up to a few dollars in savings for those in need of a memory upgrade. We hadn't really expected to see much in the way of DDR2 price changes yet, and that certainly held true for this week. As always, be sure to read the fine print and shipping info on the individual vendor website before ordering, as some may find greater savings than our guide by nabbing a shipping deal (which prices of are not included in our chart). Until next week, happy upgrading.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
