Memory Pricing Guide |
Memory Prices - Week of October 11, 2004 - Page 2By Vangie Beal October 11, 2004SDRAMMuch like our last guide, overall SDRAM prices show stability and very little in terms of savings. Our only price fluctuation this week is a measly one dollar increase to PC133 ECC 512-MB. That's about it for SDRAM excitement, which is not that surprising given the upgrade-only nature of the market. The majority of listed DDR modules remain unchanged in price, but a few have dropped by a couple dollars this week. PC2100 512-MB is down $5 to $52 and those looking for PC2100 256-MB will save $4. The price of PC2100 128-MB is up by only a dollar and that, thankfully, is the only price increase we can find. Those looking for DDR2 memory will be pleased to see that crucial.com has once again shaved a buck off the price of DDR2-533 512-MB and DDR2-667 256-MB. In addition to those small changes we also found DDR2-667 512-MB listed at $206 on Crucial's site which is a $14 savings over last week. Surprisingly, RDRAM bucks the trend and prices are down slightly this week. We have a single $1 increase on PC800 256-MB, but to counter that we see three other RIMMs down in price by $1. Those looking for PC800 128-MB this week will pay $44, a savings of $5, and lastly, PC1066 256-MB 184 pin drops $2 to $92 for the week. Overall, it's nice to see those price cuts hitting the DDR2 listings over the last two memory price Guide updates. Currently Crucial.com seems to offer the best DDR2 prices, but over time we can probably expect to see other online vendors shaving their DDR2 prices as well. This week we again see SDRAM prices remaining stable, and while this doesn't offer much in terms of savings, consumers aren't shelling out an extra dollars for their SDRAM upgrades either. DDR and RDRAM also offer consumers the opportunity to save a few dollars as well, depending on what module speeds and sizes you're looking for. As always we remind you to read the fine print on an individual vendor website before buying, and be sure to check scope out a reputable vendor before making an online purchase. In the end a good shipping deal could really offer you a higher dollar amount of savings than our price guide can offer. So until next week, happy upgrading.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
