Memory Pricing Guide |
Memory Prices - Week of October 25, 2004 - Page 2By Vangie Beal October 25, 2004SDRAMOur SDRAM listings show a bit of variety but unfortunately the biggest price changes were increases this week. PC133 CAS3 256-MB is up $10 to $62, while PC133 CAS2 128-MB jumped by $7 and now sits at $40. There were some smaller price decreases, including a $3 price drop on PC133 CAS2 256-MB and a $4 savings on PC133 ECC 512-MB, which is now at $79. Hopefully those looking to upgrade SDRAM will be able to save a few dollars by getting a good deal on shipping rates. DDR modules are a bit of hit and miss this week, as we see price changes on both sides of the board. In terms of DDR price drops, there only have two smaller $2 price cuts on PC2100 128-MB and PC3200 256-MB. Price increases represent the majority of DDR memory changes this week and we see several modules up in prices ranging from $1 to $3. The biggest jump comes in on PC3200 512-MB which is at $78, a $6 increase. Those keeping a close eye on DDR2 prices will certainly be pleased to hear that Crucial has again lowered prices on DDR2-533 memory. DDR2-533 256-MB is down $4 to $76 and DDR2-533 512-MB can now be had for $142, which is a nice $17 savings over our last memory price update. RDRAM shows two nice $13 price drops, with the first on PC800 512-MB and the second hitting PC1066 256-MB (232 pin). Additionally PC800 ECC 512-MB is down $6 to $199 this week, and it's nice to see buyers saving a few dollars on RDRAM, which has shown very few price drops of late. Overall we seem to have more modules up in price than down this week, but we certainly are pleased to see the changes in the DDR2 category. Again this week, your actual savings is going to depend on the exact module you need, but hopefully we'll see more online vendors getting into the DDR2 action, which should help lower prices even more. As always we remind you to read the fine print on an individual vendor website before buying, and be sure to scope out a reputable vendor before making an online purchase. In the end a good shipping deal could really offer you a higher dollar amount of savings than our price guide can offer. So until next week, happy upgrading.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
