The number of dual-channel DDR platforms continues to increase, and has really created a subset of the memory market. The "matched pair" format is becoming increasingly popular, as these DDR module kits are perfectly suited for the requirements of high-end dual-channel DDR operation, and are a much safer buy than purchasing one module now and hoping to match it up later. The most popular configurations are the 2x256-MB and 2x512-MB kits, and with few exceptions, vendors offer the same basic speeds in matched pair DDR kits, as with their single module DDR.
In a bit of a surprise, the high-end matched pair DDR price list is far more active than the single-module chart. We're seeing significant cuts in quite a few areas, with Geil Ultra, Corsair XMS and OCZ EL DDR memory showing the greatest overall change. The double-digit price drops are extremely plentiful, such as the $36 cut to Geil Ultra Platinum PC4400 2x512-MB and the $18 decrease on the price of Geil Ultra Platinum PC4400 2x256-MB. There were also several price cuts on the $10-$15 range, and far fewer price increases with only a couple registering in double-digits. Overall this is a great week for dual-channel DDR buyers, especially those looking for the Geil Ultra brand.
