Memory Pricing Guide |
Memory Prices - Week of December 20, 2004 - Page 2By Vangie Beal December 20, 2004SDRAMHeading into the holidays, it doesn't look like SDRAM prices have dropped enough for Santa to stock up on for all the good little upgraders out there. The best price break we came across this week was a $5 savings on PC133 CAS2 128-MB, which is now selling for $37. Additionally, those looking for PC133 ECC 256-MB or PC133 ECC 512-MB will save $1 and $3 respectively. Even though there are only a couple of price drops, the good news is that only a single SDRAM listing is up this week. DDR memory is again the area of the most price activity, and we have over a half dozen modules showing price drops, ranging from $1 to $4. Those who have been tracking the price of PC4200 256-MB will be quite pleased to learn we spotted it in PriceWatch this week for $70 - that's a nice $12 savings. We're also pleased to report not a single price increase on the DDR memory listings this week. DDR2 prices remain quite stable this week, with the exception of a $2 price drop on DDR2-533 512-MB. While a few reputable vendors are offering DDR2 modules a bit cheaper than Crucial.com, Crucial's shipping rates are still making this the overall better choice. While the price of RDRAM rarely changes, this week we see additional movement in this category. PC800 512-Mb (both ECC and non-ECC) are down in price by $4 and those in the market for PC800 128-MB will only save $1 this week. You'll also pay an extra $2 for PC1066 256-MB (232 pin), but to counter that price increase, we did find PC1066 256-MB (184 pin) at $10 cheaper than our last price check. We had hoped to see more activity on the price charts, especially since we're coming to the end of 2004. It doesn't look like the year will end on a bang for memory prices, but depending on the memory upgrade of choice, you could land a price break of $10 or more, or more likely, you won't have to shell out any extra. As always, remember to take a good look at the consumer ratings of online vendors before making a purchase, and nabbing a good shipping deal might leave a few extra dollars in your wallet. Let's all hope that 2005 brings a few nice price drops our way. So until next time, happy upgrading.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
