Memory Prices - Week of January 17, 2005 - Page 2By Vangie Beal January 17, 2005SDRAMThis week's SDRAM chart provides only a few price breaks. For those looking to upgrade PC133 CAS3 512-MB, I'm sure you'll be pleased with the $9 price drop, while PC133 CAS3 256MB dipped $4, and both PC133 ECC 256-MB and PC133 ECC 512-MB are down by $1, This may not seem like much compared to the usual DDR or DDR2 price cuts, but this is more activity that we've seen on desktop PC133 in some time. Much like SDRAM, our DDR SDRAM prices are also showing very little fluctuation this week. Small $1 and $2 price drops can be had on PC2700 512-MB, PC3200 512-MB, and PC4000 256-MB this week, while PC4200 512MB received a $2 cut. The only price increase we found was a $4 jump to PC2100 512-MB, which is now selling at $58. DDR2 prices are a bit mixed with a $1 increase on DDR2-533 256-MB and $3 price drops on DDR2-533 512-MB and DDR2-667 256-MB, and are now selling online at $124 and $96, respectively. On the RDRAM side, we're seeing more fluctuations than we normally would in this category. Dropping in price by $5 each, we have PC800 512-MB now at $170, and PC800 ECC 256-MB currently selling for $80. We also see a few modules down $1 to $3 as well this week, and our only RDRAM price increase comes by way of a $4 raise to the price of PC800 ECC 512-MB, now at $89. Overall we're seeing a few more deals and price breaks than we initially reported in the start of January 2005. Nice price drops can be had on several RDRAM modules and PC133 CAS3 512-MB as well. Still, those looking to boost new rigs found under the Christmas tree this year may still want to hang on, as prices aren't going down overall by much. As always, remember to take a good look at consumer ratings of online vendors before making a purchase, and in the end, nabbing a good shipping deal might leave a few extra dollars in your wallet.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
