Memory Pricing Guide |
Memory Prices - Week of February 14, 2005 - Page 2By Vangie Beal February 14, 2005SDRAMThis week SDRAM prices remain relatively stable, but we do see a couple of price drops worth mentioning. PC133 CAS3 256-MB is down $10 to $56 this week - due in part to us listing a different vender as opposed to an industry-wide price drop. Also of note is a smaller $4 price drop on PC133 CAS3 512-MB. Those looking to upgrade SDRAM memory this week will be pleased to see that we did not have a single SDRAM price increase to report. The majority of DDR memory prices have been slow to move in either direction, and we see several $1 price drops, countered by only a single $1 price increase. Larger price fluctuations come in on PC2700 512-MB, which is down $3 to $61 this week. Unfortunately we also have a $7 increase on the price of PC3500 512-MB, now selling for $99. For those keeping an eye on DDR2 prices you'll be pleased to see that we have a few price drops over the $10 mark this week. By switching from Crucial.com, we found another vendor listing DDR2-533 512-MB for $102 (down $14), and by switching back to Crucial's listing for DDR2-667 256-MB, the savings is $13. RDRAM prices are usually the most stable of our guide and this week is no exception. While we're pleased to report that we don't have any price increases, our decreases come in as small $1 and $2 drops on PC800 256-MB and PC800 ECC 256-MB RDRAM, respectively. Those looking for a sweetheart of a deal this Valentine's week are sure to be disappointed by the quantity of price fluctuations. Crucial has once again dropped prices on DDR2 memory, so if this is where your upgrade needs lie, then you will have saved a few dollars by waiting until this week to buy. Despite some online vendors coming in close to Crucial's DDR2 prices, when you factor in the cost of shipping Crucial is the best choice for most of the DDR2 modules we list. If you're scouring the Internet for memory prices it is a good idea to look for those reputable vendors who don't make money off shipping costs. Remember, this is a cost not accounted for in our guide and it will help keep your final purchase price low.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
