Memory Pricing Guide |
Memory Prices - Week of February 28, 2005 - Page 2By Vangie Beal February 28, 2005SDRAMThe price fluctuations on SDRAM were sparse this week, and we have only have two changes to report. The first is a price increase of $2 on PC133 ECC 256-MB now selling for $38, while the second is a nice $4 price drop on PC133 CAS3 256-MB, which is now at $52. Otherwise it was a very stable week in SDRAM, and for most consumers, waiting an extra week to purchase SDRAM will, in the very least, not have warranted forking over any extra cash. This week's DDR prices are showing a few small price fluctuations, with most being in the consumer's favor. We have a couple of DDR modules down in price by $1 and $2 along with a $7 price drop on PC2100 512-MB, which we found selling at $51 this week. PC3200 256-MB went up in price by a mere $1 and those looking for PC3500 256-MB will only need to spend an extra $2 this week. DDR2 prices, much like DDR prices, show almost no change - except for a small $2 price decrease on DDR2-533 256-MB. This is a bit surprising, given the earlier price cuts we've seen in the DDR2 area. Unlike most of our price guide this week, we do see a bit more fluctuation on RDRAM prices this week. While none of the RDRAM modules we list have increased in price, consumers are being treated to a few price breaks. PC800 256-MB and PC800 512-MB are down by $1 and $2 respectively, while those looking for PC800 ECC 256-MB will save $3 when compared to our last price listing. The best deal comes in on PC800 ECC 512-MB which fell $7 to its new price of $182. As we head out of February and into March, overall memory prices are just plain stagnant. Many of our price changes come from listing a different vendor this week, as opposed to any type of industry-wide price change. Consumers looking for a good deal this week are sure to walk away empty handed, but at least no one will be shelling out much extra for their memory upgrade. The best way to save money this week may be by checking out individual vendor Web sites to see if you can nab a shipping deal.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
