The number of dual-channel DDR platforms continues to increase, and has really created a subset of the memory market. The "matched pair" format is becoming increasingly popular, as these DDR module kits are perfectly suited for the requirements of high-end dual-channel DDR operation, and are a much safer buy than purchasing one module now and hoping to match it up later. The most popular configurations are the 2x256-MB and 2x512-MB kits, and with few exceptions, vendors offer the same basic speeds in matched pair DDR kits, as with their single module DDR.
The high-end matched pair DDR listings did show a higher overall price decrease than the single-module chart, but it still lacked the usual selection of larger price cuts. There was a significant of double-digit price cuts, but none of these managed to break even the $30 mark. Geil Ultra Platinum PC4200 2x512-MB dropped by $27, Geil Ultra Platinum PC3500 2x512-MB fell by $23, and Mushkin PC3200 L2 2x512-MB shaved $20 off its price tag. In terms of overall trends, Geil Ultra dual channel kits received a lot of attention this week, with half of the top 10 price cuts being for Geil Ultra modules. The 2x512-MB listings continue to show the most price movement, even though we continue to add 2x1-GB kits with each price update.
