Memory Pricing Guide |
Memory Prices - Week of April 11, 2005 - Page 2By Vangie Beal April 11, 2005SDRAMOver the past few weeks we've seen very little movement on SDRAM memory prices, and this time out is certainly no exception. Our only price change this week comes in on PC133 CAS3 256-MB which is down $4 to $45. This week we have quite a few DDR price changes - both positive and negative. Those looking for PC2700 will be pleased to see all the modules we list are down in price, ranging from $1 to $4. PC3700 modules have also dropped in price, with a nice $5 savings on PC3700 256-MB. The big DDR price increase is a $9 jump on PC3500 512-MB, which now lists at $104. PC4200 512-MB also rose by $6, but along with these more notable changes, we also see a few $1 and $2 savings as well. DDR2 prices are quite a mixed bag this week, due largely to some change in vendors, as opposed to any industry-wide price drop. We've switched from Crucial's pricing on three modules to other vendors and as a result DDR2-533 256-MB is down $13 to $44, DDR2-533 512-MB dropped $11 to $80, and those who are watching DDR2-667 512-MB will find a $10 savings. Much like SDRAM prices, things are pretty quiet on the RDRAM front this week. The only price change we could find was a $4 savings on PC800 512-MB, which is now selling for $161. SDRAM and RDRAM aren't offering much in the way of savings in this update, but DDR and DDR2 modules are worth a second look if this is where your upgrade needs are. There are many deals to be had on DDR memory, some of which go further than a small $1 or $2 savings. With the exception of PC3500 and PC4200, all the DDR/DDR2 512-MB varieties are down in price this week, and price drops on DDR2 memory certainly look inviting as well. As always, remember to take a good look at consumer ratings of online vendors before making a purchase, and in the end, nabbing a good shipping deal could leave a few extra dollars in your wallet.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
