Memory Pricing Guide |
Memory Prices - Week of April 25, 2005 - Page 2By Vangie Beal April 25, 2005SDRAMOver the past few weeks we have only seen lone price drops on SDRAM modules, but this week we do find a few lower prices on PC133 memory. There was a $2 drop to PC133 ECC 128-MB, and we also found a few $1 price cuts as well, which hit PC133 CAS3 128MB and PC133 CAS2 128MB. PC133 CAS3 512-MB is down $4 to $87 this week, but PC150 modules remain unchanged in price. This week we don't have a single SDRAM price increase to report. DDR prices have been all over the board lately, and this week overall prices have settled down a bit, offering consumers smaller price breaks. We find the usual selection of minor $1 price drops, along with more significant $4 price cuts to PC3200 256-MB, PC3200 512-MB, and PC3700 512-MB modules. Additionally those shopping for PC2100 512-MB will be pleased to find this memory decreased $5 to $44 this week. The only DDR-SDRAM module to go up in price was a measly $1 jump to the price of PC2700 512-MB. All PC4000 and PC4200 modules listed in the guide remain unchanged in price this week. DDR2 memory is far from the active category it was last week - our only price fluctuation here this week is a single $2 increase on DDR2-667 512-MB, which is now at $148. This week the dollar value of RDRAM price drops makes it well worth a second look if you've been waiting to make a system upgrade. We see a few nice price breaks on 512-MB memory, with PC800 512-MB down $6 to $155 and PC800 ECC 512-MB falling $9 to $165. PC1066 256-MB (232 pin) can be had for $92, which is a nice $7 savings over our last guide. Those looking for PC1066 256-MB (184 pin) will spend an extra $3 this week, however this represents the only RDRAM price increase on the chart. This week's system memory prices have certainly moved in the consumer's favor, although many price drops are the result of a vendor change as opposed to any industry-wide price reduction. Those looking for PC133 SDRAM modules and DDR-SDRAM memory will benefit from the price breaks the most, but a few good deals can be had outside of those listings as well. Those who held off an extra week before buying will most likely be glad they waited to save a few dollars as overall savings outnumber price increases this week.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
