Memory Pricing Guide |
Memory Prices - Week of May 9, 2005 - Page 2By Vangie Beal May 10, 2005SDRAMThis week we see very limited price changes on SDRAM compared our last Memory Price Guide update. Down in price is PC133 CAS3 256-MB, which dropped by $2, and PC133 CAS2 256-MB fell by only a single dollar. Those looking to purchase PC133 CAS3 512-MB will spend an extra buck this week and we have a small $3 price increase on PC133 CAS2 128-MB to report as well. These four modules represent the only SDRAM price changes in this week's guide. DDR modules are showing a bit more zeal and we have several price changes that will leave a few extra bucks in your wallet this week. Along with four small $1 and $2 price cuts, those looking for PC3500 512-MB or PC4200 256-MB will be pleased at the $7 price drop on these two modules. The only DDR price increase to report is the $5 jump to PC4000 512-MB, which is now selling for $135. DDR2 prices are moving in the right direction, one that consumers will definitely appreciate. DDR2-667 256-MB provides only a dollar savings, but DDR2-667 512-MB is down $4 to $144, while the price of DDR2-533 512-MB dropped $5 to $75 this week. Two RDRAM modules have shifted around with a difference of $1 over last week, but with a vendor listing change we found PC1066 256-MB (232 pin) for $82 making for a nice $10 savings. Other than those three price fluctuations, all other RDRAM prices remain unchanged. Overall memory prices remain relatively stable, with the few larger price decreases being the result of a vendor listing change in our guide as opposed to any downward industry trend. Those who have been watching DDR2 prices may be disappointed by the low dollar savings, but over the past couple months the overall price has come down quite substantially. DDR2-533 512-MB sells for $75 this week, but this is a drop from $127 back in January 2005. A reminder for those shopping for memory online is the importance of looking for a reputable vendor who doesn't make money off shipping costs; remember this is a cost not factored into our guide and it will help keep your final purchase price low.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
