The number of dual-channel DDR platforms continues to increase, and has really created a subset of the memory market. The "matched pair" format is becoming increasingly popular, as these DDR module kits are perfectly suited for the requirements of high-end dual-channel DDR operation, and are a much safer buy than purchasing one module now and hoping to match it up later. The most popular configurations are currently the 2x512-MB and 2x1-GB kits, and with few exceptions, vendors offer the same basic speeds in matched pair DDR kits, as with their single module DDR.
The high-end matched pair DDR chart may not have equaled the DDR2 listings for overall downward price activity, but it certainly gave them a run for the money. In terms of an aggregate price decrease, matched pair DDR was pushing $600 this week, and there is no shortage of heavy individual price cuts. Crucial Ballistix PC4000 2x1-GB topped the chart with an $80 drop, while OCZ PC4200 EL 2x512-MB (-$71), OCZ PC3200 EL 2x1-GB (-$58), and OCZ PC4400 EL 2x512-MB ($-57) also fell quite noticeably. There was again a nice mix of 2x1-GB and 2x512-MB DDR kits receiving price cuts this week, and there is a deal for virtually all buyers and budget levels.
