Memory Prices - Week of June 6, 2005 - Page 2By Vangie Beal June 6, 2005SDRAMOnce again, we have very little to report in terms of SDRAM price changes. Over the past few weeks we've seen very little activity with SDRAM and this week is no exception. Only four modules have changed in price, and those looking for PC133 CAS2 256-MB will be pleased with the $4 savings this week. But if PC133 CAS3 128-MB fits your upgrade criteria, you'll need to fork over $32, which is a $6 increase. The other two price changes include a $2 savings on PC133 ECC 512-MB and a slight $1 increase on PC133 CAS2 128-MB. DDR modules show price fluctuations in both directions this week. The biggest change is a $10 increase on PC3500 512-MB, due largely in part to a new vendor listing this week. PC2100 256-MB is up $3 to $19, and those looking for a deal can save from $1 to $4 on PC3200 512-MB, PC2100 512-MB, and PC3700 256-MB this week. DDR2-533 modules dropped in price by a mere $1 each, but if you're shopping for DDR2-667 512-MB you'll get a bit better deal with a price of $138 - a $6 savings over our last report. We don't have a single price increase to report on RDRAM this week. We do however, find a couple of smaller $2 price drops and a nice $11 drop on PC800 ECC 128-MB, now selling for $145. As we saw with the SDRAM prices, this larger price drop came with a vendor listing change. Overall, there is a lack of consistency in price fluctuations in this update, and many price changes were just smaller $1 and $2 savings that arise from online vendors trying to undercut the competition by a dollar or two. Of course, the potential deals are still determined by the exact type of memory you need, but we do see a couple bigger price drops, which makes PC3500 512-MB and PC800 ECC 128-MB worth a second look. If you're scouring the Internet for memory prices, it is a good idea to look for those reputable vendors who don't make money off shipping costs. Remember this is a cost not factored into our guide and keeping an eye on this will help keep your final purchase price low.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
