Memory Pricing Guide |
Memory Prices - Week of August 1, 2005 - Page 2By Vangie Beal August 1, 2005SDRAMThis week we have several price fluctuations on SDRAM. In terms of price increases, PC133 CAS3 128-MB and PC133 CAS2 256-MB are up by $1 and $2, respectively. These price increases however are countered by smaller $1 drops on PC133 CAS3 256-MB and PC133 CAS2 128-MB. A $3 savings is also found on PC133 ECC 512-MB, and the price of PC133 CAS3 512-MB dropped $6 to $82. Surprisingly, the price drops are higher on the 512-MB modules this week, but there is also a $4 savings on PC150 256-MB, which is now selling for $51. DDR prices are relatively stable this week, bringing mostly small $1 and $2 price changes. We do have a $3 price drop on PC3700 512-MB memory and PC4000 512-MB is down $4 to $144. The DDR2 modules show a better downward trend as $2 is shaved off the price of DDR2-667 256-MB, $3 gets chopped off DDR2-533 256-MB, and DDR2-533 512-MB is down $7 to $50 this week. RDRAM prices, which showed only a couple fluctuations in our last guide, have a bit more movement this week. We have the standard $1 drop on a couple modules, but a much nicer $5 cut to PC800 ECC 256-MB, which is now listed at $69. The only RDRAM price increase is a $3 jump on PC1066 256-MB (184 pin) modules. Overall savings are few and far between this week, but the good news is that if you are planning to buy, none of the modules we list in our guide have gone up by more than $2 since our last report. The $50 price tag on DDR2-533 512-MB (a $7 drop) makes this memory look a bit more attractive as does the $5 price drop on PC800 ECC 256-MB. Consumers looking for a super deal are sure to be disappointed, but at least no one will be shelling out much extra for their memory upgrade. A good way to save money this week is by checking out individual vendor websites to see if you can nab a shipping deal, which may yield a higher return than the cuts in our guide.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
