Memory Pricing Guide |
Memory Prices - Week of August 29, 2005 - Page 2By Vangie Beal August 29, 2005SDRAMThis week, SDRAM prices are in line with our last report and show very little in the way of price fluctuations over the past two weeks. Those shopping for PC133 CAS3 256-MB will pay $40 for it, or a jump of $4. This is our only price increase, while the sole price decrease we found is a $3 savings on PC133 ECC 128-MB, which is now selling for $32. DDR-SDRAM prices bring some variety to our guide this week, as we charted several price changes here. The only DDR module to go up in price was PC2700 512-MB and it only increased by $1. While a few modules went down in price by the same amount, we do see a $2 drop on PC2700 256-MB, and both PC3500 256-MB and PC4000 256-MB are down by $3, and now sell at $32 and $69, respectively. While DDR2-667 modules remain unchanged in price, the DDR2-533 prices have fallen by a mere $1 each. As per the standard trend, we do have a single $1 increase and a decrease on RDRAM modules this week, along with a $4 savings on PC1066 256-MB (184 pin). There is a much nicer price tag of $108 on PC800 ECC 512-MB this week, which equals a nice $14 savings. Other than these three price changes, RDRAM prices are a virtual repeat of our last price guide. Overall, there are a few good deals to be found on system memory, depending of course, on your exact upgrade needs. The $14 savings on PC800 ECC 512-MB makes it well worth a look if you've been considering adding more memory to an older Pentium 4 system, but overall memory prices haven't change by more than a few dollars in either direction. Consumers looking for good deals this week are sure to be disappointed, but at least no one will be shelling out much extra for their memory upgrade. With memory prices stable, a great way to save money is by checking out individual vendor Web sites to see if you can nab a shipping deal, which may amount to a greater dollar savings than our price guide can offer.
We'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that SharkyExtreme has no affiliation with any vendor listed in our guide, but our memory price charts do take more than just the basic dollar amount into consideration. Here are just a few examples to highlight some of the many things we keep in mind when compiling a price guide - which may translate into the price you see in our guide being different than one you find:
Since we don't have a direct line to every vendor doing business online, so if you know of a company selling quality products at decent prices that isn't making our price guide, feel free to drop us a line with the vendors URL, so we can check them out as well! Feedback (of any kind) on the Weekly Memory Prices is always read and appreciated! Until next week - happy upgrading!
