The number of dual-channel DDR platforms continues to increase, and has really created a subset of the memory market. The "matched pair" format is becoming increasingly popular, as these DDR module kits are perfectly suited for the requirements of high-end dual-channel DDR operation, and are a much safer buy than purchasing one module now and hoping to match it up later. The most popular configurations are currently the 2x512-MB and 2x1-GB kits, and with few exceptions, vendors offer the same basic speeds in matched pair DDR kits, as with their single module DDR.
The matched pair DDR chart showed more price movement than the single module listings, and the overall change checked in at $83 in the negative column. There were definitely some very nice drops this week, including $35 sliced off Mushkin PC4400 2x512-MB, and OCZ PC3500 EL 2x1-GB and Crucial Ballistix PC3200 2x512-MB dropping by $31 and $21, respectively. There were a few double-digit spikes to contend with, and Kingston HyperX PC4300 dual channel kit prices are certainly on the rise. Take those out of the equation, and it was actually a pretty good week for buyers, with some nice deals in the 2x512-MB kits.
